**The following is a list of tips or documents that you may need for your tax appointment. Every situation is unique and your tax return may require other information.

 

 

TIPS FOR SAVING TIME ON YOUR TAX PREPARATION

  • Create personal check list based on last year's return and add new items for current year
  • Schedule Online Appointment, save you time and no need to drive to your appointment 
  • Request Intuit Link Invitation (secure way to provide or receive information and documents online)
  • Create a tax summary and/or copies of all tax documents
  • Drop off documents or provide information in advance of your appointment

TIPS FOR SAVING ON YOUR TAXES

  • Start tax planning early in the year, don't wait till the last minute
  • Get organized - plan and keep documents
  • Boost your retirement savings (IRA/retirement account)
  • Setup a college fund for your dependents
  • Avoid penalties by cashing out early on retirement account
  • Keep track of your deductions
  • Educate yourself and conduct research on tax saving strategies

 

 

TAX DOCUMENTS CHECKLIST 

  • Government issued picture identification (Drivers license/ID) for self and spouse
  • Copy of previous year tax return (NEW CLIENTS ONLY)
  • Social security cards for self and all dependents (NEW CLIENTS ONLY)
  • W-2's, 1099s, K-1s, etc. (wages, unemployment, retirement  and other miscellaneous income)
  • Interest and dividend statements
  • Copies of all pertinent tax documents
  • Information for new dependents being claimed (name, social security card and date of birth)
  • Dependent caregiver information (name, address, amount paid,  tax I.D. or social security number)
  • Tuition and educational fees. (MUST  BRING FORM 1098-T or SCHOOL STATEMENT)
  • Health insurance coverage information. Forms 1095-B or 1095-C
  • Covered California or Affordable Care Act (ACAor Obama Care) (MUST BRING FORM 1095-A)

Please be prepared with all the information to complete your tax preparation based on last year's return and knowldege of new changes. Additional or follow up appointments to complete your return due to excessive information missing or negligence on your part may cost addition fees.

 

 

1040 FILERS / ITEMIZED DEDUCTIONS (long form) 

  • Medical / dental and insurance expenses

  • Sales Tax Records

  • Property Taxes

  • Vehicle registration (DMV). License fee only, not the renewal fee. (bring the renewal notice)

  •  Mortgage interest, mortgage insurance and points paid

  • Charitable contributions

  • Job related Moving expenses

  • Miscellaneous deductions information. (Union dues, tools and other unreimbursed job related expenses)
